Our Verdict

MSR’s Guardian Gravity Water Purifier is a large capacity, group filter set up capable of producing safe drinking water wherever you are travelling. Using the same technology as the original Guardian filter that removes viruses, bacteria, protozoa, dirt and other particles all at once. This version is gravity fed rather than the original pump so it does require some cleaning but the process is very quick and easy to do. The flow rate is good for a gravity system, pulling through 1L in just two minutes. The taste free water comes from the carbon activated purifier that makes up this two stage filter.

The 10L reservoir is large enough for use at a base camp of for groups as a communal filter. The bag itself is robust with a reinforced bottom and durable additions throughout. The whole set up is rolled up for storing and transporting in the storage bag provided to make it easy. Overall, it’s easy to use, reassuringly robust, and maintenance-free; all extremely useful for travellers and wilderness explorers.
