Why do I need a Footprint? — The MSR Footprint offers greater protection for the underside of your Hubba Hubba tent on rocks, gravel and gritty, sandy or rough surfaces. The footprint takes the wear & tear instead of tent floor which could add many extra years to the life of your tent. The Footprint helps to keep your tent clean in muddy conditions and allows more set up options for the Hubba Hubba (see secondary photos). The Footprint can also be used as a ‘mini-tarp’ which can be laid out on wet grass for picnics, wrapped over rucksacks or other gear to keep them dry, or strung up between trees to provide a rain shelter or to provide shade on hot days.

Editors Comments:
The Hubba series has been around for several years now and has seen small tweaks and modifications year on year, but also less obvious, but vitally important changes in material technologies. I’m slightly surprised the NX isn’t the EVO or Evolution.
The key features of the NX are the same as previous Hubba Hubba models, non-tapered floor plan and trans-axial pole in the roof to create the porch and to support the walls and ceiling so there is plenty of head and shoulder room to sit up in.
The new NX incorporates non-drip rain gutters around the doors, extra tough infinity loop stitching in key areas, newly designed tensioning straps and loads of quality touches, but what you are going to appreciate most is the reduction in weight and pack size.
The NX when fully packed with all components and including a few manufacturers tags and labels, weighs in at 1359 grams on the EMS office scales. The pack is slightly square and measures approximately 46x11x14cm. The square pack is also going to please people who need to pack it into bike panniers.

The three season rating is a Three Season U.S. rating. The States can see some fairly heavy snowfall in early Spring, so with the exception of the occasional freak storms we sometimes get with very high winds the NX should be fine all year round in the U.K. Additional guy lines are recommended for very windy conditions and winter use.

I wasn’t too keen on last year’s grey/white colour, so I’m really pleased to see the green model is not just in green, but a nice mid-dark mossy green. Looks like this might be the backpacking tent to beat.
